What is 11th National Selection Conference
of the European Youth Parliament Ukraine?

WHAT IS EYP?

The European Youth Parliament (EYP) was founded in 1987 as a pan-European school project, which spreads and promotes the idea of united Europe and European citizenship. It is a unique educational programme which brings together young people from all over Europe to discuss current topics in a parliamentary setting.

As a network of independent associations, EYP is present in 40 European countries and organises almost 600 events every year. The EYP network organises almost 1.500 days of EYP activity every year, involving close to 35.000 participants. Thousands of young people are active as volunteers all over Europe, making EYP a programme truly for young people, by young people.

Registered with the Government of Ukraine on February 18, 2002, European Youth Parliament Ukraine is a full-fledged participant in civil society development process in Ukraine. It has been successfully operating in Ukraine since 2000.

NATIONAL SELECTION CONFERENCE

National Selection Conference in Ukraine occurs once a year and aims to select its best participants to represent EYP Ukraine at International Sessions. National Selection Conference lasts for 5 days, during which delegates work in committees discussing political, economic, social and cultural issues that are on agenda of the relevant committees of the European Parliament. National Sessions usually gather around 100-150 participants, together with international committee chairpersons, journalists and the board of the session.

Kharkiv is the host city of the session in 2017. It is the second-largest city in Ukraine and an administrative centre of Kharkiv Oblast. The umbrella topic of the this year's National Selection Conference is "Securing The Future".

Within the 5 days, between 11th to 15th of August, young leaders will be examining current issues of civil society development in both Ukraine and Europe overall, seeking solutions that will be drawn together in a Resolution. For greater functionality and performance, all participants will be divided into 8 working groups (committees) that will work under the guidance of experienced moderators from Europe and Ukraine.

We are organising our event in order to ensure building of the Ukrainian civil society, development of the positive international image of Ukraine and formation of the constructive and pragmatic attitude of the youth to the Ukrainian European integration.

Our aim is to make participants aware of the fact that the saving of environment is a guarantee of their sustainable and healthy future and that everyone can make its contribution to the improvement of the ecological situation of Kharkiv.

Our mission is to reach these goals while hosting 11th National Selection Conference of EYP Ukraine in Kharkiv (July 9-15 2017). During the event, we are planning to take care of the environment (recycling waste, using eco-friendly materials, etc.) and of participants' health (most activities will take place outside, participants will be provided with healthy food, morning sports, etc.).

The topic of the conference is "Securing the future". Academic topics for the committee work are divided into 4 clusters: Social, Political, Environmental and Technological. Furthermore, in order to improve the cooperation between organisers, chairpersons, jury and media teams, we're currently considering an opportunity of making 2-days training before the session itself.

The integral part of our event concept is saving the environment and contributing to the improvement of the ecological situation in Kharkiv. Currently, our team approved the following activities:

  • to avoid auto-transfers using the city subway or walking;

  • to use dishes made of eco-friendly materials instead of plastic ones;

  • to sort and recycle waste;

  • to call participants to the healthy way of life:

    • providing healthy food (a lot of fruits, vegetables, no fizzy drinks, dried fruits instead of candies);

    • organising morning sports in the city park;

    • holding as many as possible activities outside.
